Setup Steps

Create a Telegram Bot

Open Telegram and search for @BotFather. Send /newbot and follow the prompts to create your bot.

  • • Choose a name for your bot (e.g., 'My OpenClaw')
  • • Choose a username ending in 'bot' (e.g., 'my_openclaw_bot')
  • • Save the API token BotFather gives you

Get Your Chat ID

You need your Telegram user ID to authorize yourself as the bot owner.

  • • Search for @userinfobot on Telegram
  • • Send any message to it
  • • It will reply with your user ID (a number like 123456789)

Configure OpenClaw

Add the Telegram configuration to your OpenClaw config file.

Restart OpenClaw

Apply the configuration by restarting the OpenClaw service.

Start Chatting

Open Telegram, find your bot, and send a message. OpenClaw will respond!

  • • Search for your bot by its username
  • • Click 'Start' to begin the conversation
  • • Send any message to test the connection

  • allowFrom — Array of user IDs allowed to message the bot
  • allowGroups — Enable/disable group chat support
  • parseMode — Message formatting (Markdown or HTML)
  • silentMode — Disable notification sounds for responses
⚠️ Troubleshooting

Bot not responding?

Check that your user ID is in the allowFrom array and restart OpenClaw.

Invalid token error?

Make sure you copied the entire token from BotFather, including any colons.

Messages are delayed?

Telegram uses long-polling. If your server has connectivity issues, messages may be delayed.
