The project has officially rebranded from **Moltbot** to **OpenClaw**. This is the second rename - originally the project was called Clawdbot before becoming Moltbot.
Why OpenClaw?
The new name combines two key concepts:
- **"Open"** - emphasizing the open-source, community-driven nature of the project
- **"Claw"** - honoring the beloved lobster heritage
As the team put it: *"Yes, the mascot is still a lobster. Some things are sacred."*
The Name Journey
1. **Clawdbot** - The original name
2. **Moltbot** - After Anthropic's trademark concerns about "Clawd" being too similar to "Claude"
3. **OpenClaw** - The final form, combining openness with the lobster heritage
What This Means for Users
For existing Moltbot users, the transition is straightforward:
1. **Update your installation** using: `npm install -g openclaw@latest`
2. **Update configuration files** - paths now use `~/.openclaw/` instead of `~/.moltbot/`
3. **Skills and data** will continue to work without changes
The lobster mascot remains, and the project's core functionality is unchanged.
